Kamla to Govt: Use UNGA leadership to stop Gaza decimation

Opposition Leader, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, has called on the Government to use Trinidad and Tobago’s current United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) leadership to demand, “a stop to the decimation of Palestine.”

Persad-Bissessar cited the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, which has seen the deaths of 30,800 people, as she offered greetings to the Muslim community for the Holy Month of Ramadan.

The conflict in Gaze has left 85 percent of its population internally displaced, with shortages of food, clean water, and medicine.

The Opposition Leader said: “I know our Muslim brothers and sisters have been praying for an end to these deadly hostilities. And they will more so, now.  They will also be praying for our beautiful nation, now besieged by a massive cloud of deadly, brutal, and unprecedented crime.”

She also called on the T&T Police Service to ensure the safety of Muslims during the Holy Month.

“I look forward to increased police patrols in the vicinity of mosques across the nation during Ramadan,” Mrs Persad-Bissessar said.

In wishing the Muslim community a safe and fulfilling observance of Ramadan, she added, “Self-discipline and sacrifice teach us that no matter how far we progress in this world, we must always reflect and face our shortcomings with the courage to change.”
