Focus on young people, St. Lucia opposition leader advises

Opportunities must be given to young people to prevent them from going astray, and it’s the government’s responsibility to do so.

That’s according to St Lucia’s opposition leader, Allan Chastanet.

Chastanet was speaking during the United National Congress’ (UNC) anti-crime Town Hall meeting last evening.

“We have young people that can show us the way, they have the courage, and they’ve shown great talent in sports and the creative industries. We must give them opportunities to provide those talents in other sectors of the economy…But the government must take the lead in providing the infrastructure for them to do that,” he said.

As he referenced the crime situation, creating an impact on communities and the country overall, Chasatanet said thought must also be given to the medical personnel who are charged with caring for youths who are severely hurt or even killed as a result of violence.

He also asked the audience to spare a thought on the young lives lost as well.
